Police and officials in Xuan Dai Ward, Dak Lak Province, have evacuated 94 residents from 24 households at the foot of Cam Mountain since Thursday morning.

The evacuation was ordered due to the high risk of landslides posed by a tourism project under construction on the mountain.

Xuan Dai Ward officials assisted several families with young children, relocating them to a primary school shelter located about 500 meters away.

Tran Van Do, 39, said he first secured his house before taking his wife and 17-month-old son to the school. The family brought only important documents, clothing for two days, and some snacks. Their single-story house is located at the foot of Cam Mountain.

In Quy Nhon Nam Ward in Gia Lai Province, nearly 30 residents, mostly from the high-risk landslide area near Ba Hoa Mountain, sought refuge at a local government's office.

Among them is Pham Thi Hoa, 48, who brought three of her grandchildren to this shelter but explained that her family of eight had to split up. Her husband, two children, and another grandchild were placed at a different shelter in Nguyen Thai Hoc Primary School, nearly one kilometer away.

Alone at the storm shelter in Quy Nhon Nam Ward, 75-year-old Cao Thi Canh expressed her anxiety, noting her son was unable to return home at this time.

She said her greatest worry for the past two days has been the safety of her home when the storm makes landfall.

In Khanh Hoa Province, a 90-year-old woman from the landslide-prone area of Nam Nha Trang Ward was escorted to a community cultural center for safety.

On Thursday morning, authorities in the ward issued an evacuation order to 200 households in Thanh Dat Village, moving residents to the center 500 meters away.

The evacuation was deemed necessary because the neighborhood, which developed spontaneously along the slope of Hon Ro Mountain over several decades, is highly vulnerable. In 2018, the area suffered a severe landslide that killed 11 people and destroyed dozens of homes.

A gas station on National Highway 19 in Tay Son Commune, Gia Lai Province, has been reinforced with iron bars and plastic sheeting on the afternoon of Nov. 6 ahead of the storm's arrival.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting projected that eastern Gia Lai and Quang Ngai would bear the brunt of the typhoon, with damaging winds between 89-102 kph and 134-249 kph.

The agency warned that the expected wind speeds, peaking between 5 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday, "could completely destroy single-story houses and other non-durable structures."

Inside the building’s basement, three cars worth over VND6 billion (US$228,000) were carefully wrapped to protect them from potential flooding.

Hung explained his diligence: “In the past few days, I saw many cars damaged by storms and floods, so I prepared carefully to be safe.”
