Dozens of dead trees removed in Hanoi

Workers saw off parts of the trees for easier transportation.

A representative of Dong Da District said the trees might have died due to unfavorable weather conditions when they were planted, or improper planting techniques.

Plastic bags can be seen still covering the roots of the trees. Each tree was placed inside holes that were 60 centimeters deep.

Dong Da authorities have told contractors to replace the dead trees within a week.

More than half of the trees on the pavements could not grow and died as a result.

The extended Huynh Thuc Khang Street spans 1.3 kilometers. Its main investor was the Dong Da District People's Committee, and the project cost over VND340 billion.

On the other side of the street in front of the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, locals put electric wires with light bulbs around the trunks of the dead trees.
