During the celebration, Fung recounted his first encounter with Shu Qi in 1998, sharing that he was internally saying “Wow” due to the actress’ beauty.

He continued to share that even after marriage, returning home to see Shu Qi always elicited a “Wow” from him. However, he noted their time together is limited due to their work schedules.

Fung also recounted that he proposed to Shu Qi with a paper ring because the custom-made ring he had ordered for her needed nearly a year to be completed.

He explained that the paper ring was modeled after the design of the actual ring, telling Shu Qi: “The ring you will eventually receive will be like this.”

Shu Qi, 50, began her career in the entertainment industry as a teenager, initially appearing in softcore pornography films.

She gained recognition from notable directors in Hong Kong and Taiwan in the mid-1990s and achieved fame with leading roles in movies like “Viva Erotica” in 1996 and "Bishonen” in 1998.

Her international recognition was bolstered by her roles in “The Transporter” and “So Close” in 2002, “Three Times” in 2005, “My Wife Is a Gangster 3” in 2006, and “Love” in 2012.

In 2023, she served as a judge in the main category at the Venice International Film Festival. This, along with her previous jury duties at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008 and the Cannes Film Festival in 2009, make her the third female artist of Chinese descent to judge at three major European film festivals, following actresses Gong Li and Maggie Cheung.

Along with his acting career, Fung, 50, has also been active as a singer, writer, and film director.

The duo transitioned from being friends for 20 years to lovers and eventually spouses.
