The "Shark Jaw" mall, Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and Trang Tien Street were among a number of Hanoi sites captured by foreign photographers in the 1990s.

News about the building's proposed demolition have been met with various opinions, with some saying its demolition will create new space around Hoan Kiem Lake and others protesting saying it is a symbol of an historical era.

Soloman exhibited his picture at the "Hanoi-A Time to Remember" exhibition last October.

During a visit to Hanoi, Grumpe was drawn to the city's sights and people and asked a university professor to help him learn more about the lives of locals.

Grumpe said while there were few cars on Hanoi’s streets in 1991, their number shot up within just two years.
