My family usually have fruit after dinner and rarely eat it with breakfast or lunch. What is the best time to eat it? (Hang, 30, Hanoi)

Answer:

Ripe fruit is a source rich of fiber, vitamins and minerals. An average adult should eat at least 100 to 200 g of ripe fruit a day, as recommended by the World Health Organization.

Many families have a habit of eating fruit only once a day and taking in the types of fruit they like only, which should be changed. For example, if you eat fruit only in the evening, you may take in too much vitamin C, which may damage your stomach and cause insomnia.

You should divide your fruit daily intake into several portions throughout the day, so that your body can be provided with enough vitamins and minerals.

Similar to any other food type, fruit brings the best benefits to your health when being consumed correctly and at a certain amount only.

For example, if you already drink lime juice, you should not have orange or grapefruit after meals anymore. An apple, or a piece of papaya or watermelon would make the better choices.

Fruit should not be eaten shortly before bedtime either, as doing so may affect the digestive system. It is recommended to eat fruit 30 to 60 minutes before meals or after exercising.
