Botox treatment, using purgatives, skipping meals and continuous usage of sauna are some of the more dangerous weight-loss methods that can seriously affect the body.

The general principle of losing weight is to avoid taking more energy than what the body can burn while doing exercise to eliminate excess fat that has accumulated inside the body. At the same time, you need to have a scientifically accurate diet that helps you in your weight-loss journey.

According to Dr. Nguyen Anh Duy Tung of Nutrihome Nutrition Clinic, to safely lose weight without weakening the body and maintaining weight loss in the long run, everyone should only keep their weight loss goal to 0.45 - 0.9 kg a week. The following words are warnings about dangerous weight loss methods that can destroy your body.

Stomach botox injection

Stomach botox injection to lose weight is a method that can poison the body. Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT), which is injected into the body, is advertised as having the ability to slow down digestion, limit appetite, and help with weight loss. However, BoNT can be poisonous, causing paralysis, ptosis, blurred vision, dry mouth, and dysphagia. Currently, BoNT hasn’t been approved by any health organizations for stomach injections.

Skipping meals, fasting

Daily meals help burn calories and transform them into energy, as well as maintain your daily metabolism. If you’re skipping meals or fasting, then the amount of energy and your metabolism rate will drop tremendously. At this point, you will have a lot of appetite for sweet food that can easily cause weight gain.

When you’re fasting, your body will also start losing muscle before burning fat cells. This can lead to debilitation. In reality, many people had to go to the hospital because they tried to fast for weight loss.

Cut down too much carbs, fat, and protein

If you’re cutting this group of food in the long run, then your body will be at risk of malnutrition. Consequences include dizziness, tiredness, anemia, muscle atrophy, dehydration, fainting, hair loss, wrinkled skin, and slow metabolism. Not to mention that when you go back to eating carbs like normal, your body will gain weight more easily.

Using diet pills and purgatives

Freely using diet pills containing banned substances might have deadly consequences. An example is sibutramine, which can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, the substance can increase the risk of allergy, headaches, dizziness, etc.

On the other hand, using purgatives to lose weight will make your body excrete all of its nutrients. Making it incapable of absorbing nutrients from food, leading to serious malnutrition. There are also cases where using purgatives causes weight gain.

Drinking too much water

Experts warned that an adult should only drink 1.5 - 2 liters of water a day. Drinking enough water will improve the body’s resistance, maintain bodily functions, cleanse the body, and limit your appetites. However, drinking too much water will dilute the sodium inside your blood, overwork the kidney, harming your health.

Continuous usage of sauna

It’s common to think that a lot of saunas will help burn away excess fat. In reality, a sauna only causes your body to lose a certain amount of water – leading to temporary weight loss. After supplementing your body with water, your weight will return to normal. Moreover, your body sweats a lot during a sauna. Too much sauna will lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.

According to Dr. Nguyen Anh Duy Tung, to lose weight successfully and healthily, everyone should follow a few rules: focus on reducing fat, not muscle, bones, or water; combine burning energy (such as exercising) and limiting energy intake (by not overeating); maintain your weight after reaching your goal to avoid gaining weight again.

Moreover, patients should only use medication (such as those for diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, etc.) when properly prescribed.

When it comes to nutrients, everyone should cut down on refined carbs, because they can increase the sugar level in your blood, making you feel hungry quicker. Products containing refined carbs also contribute to developing belly fat and weight gain.

You should consume more greens and protein to reduce your appetites and make you feel full for longer, as well as boost your metabolism. Exercises such as running, cycling,...and sufficient sleep will also help in successful weight loss.
