An event organizing company was suspended and fined after models in a fashion show were spotted wearing backless camisoles last month.

A representative of the HCMC Culture and Sports Department said in a press conference on Thursday that Objoff Co. Ltd. was fined VND85 million ($3,612) for hosting the fashion show named "New Tradition" and its operation was suspended for 18 months.

The department considered the show inappropriate, using costumes that went against fine customs and tradition.

Lam Ngo Hoang Anh, of the HCMC Department of Culture and Sports, said that this agency was coordinating with related parties to review and handle other similar violations.

The department also coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications to handle and prevent inappropriate images of the show from spreading online.

The show was held on May 6 in Thu Duc City, presenting a collection of Nguyen Tuong Danh, who was introduced as a young designer. Photos of the show surfaced online with models wearing conical hats and customized camisoles that revealed their backs and bottoms.

The incident sparked controversy among viewers and people in the fashion industry. Designer Si Hoang said the customized camisoles and underwear used in the show were unacceptable because the camisoles were like bras, to be worn only in private.

Tuong Danh said the traditional camisole inspired her controversial designs, and they were only a small part of her collection.

The designer competed in the Miss International Queen transgender beauty pageant in 2021 and is also a model and stylist.
