A 63-year-old man passed away on a Lufthansa flight from Thailand to Germany following a severe medical incident where he expelled liters of blood.

Despite the efforts of the flight crew and an onboard doctor, the man passed away midflight, resulting in the plane returning to Bangkok International Airport about an hour and a half after takeoff, Fox Business reported Feb. 12.

"He had cold sweats, was breathing much too quickly, and was already apathetic," nursing specialist Karin Missfelder, a passenger on the plane, told Swiss outlet Blick about the man in the row in front of her.

She noted the man's wife mentioned they had rushed to catch the flight, which might have exacerbated his condition.

A Polish doctor on the flight attempted to assess and assist him, even as the flight attendants performed resuscitation efforts for thirty minutes without success. The captain eventually announced the man's death to the passengers.

Following the incident, the aircraft returned to Bangkok, where passengers were rebooked on other flights.
