The 2023 Miss World Vietnam Huynh Tran Y Nhi broke down in tears in an apology video, admitting she was immature and inexperienced in making recent controversial statements after winning the pageant crown.

Since winning the competition on July 22, Nhi has been in many interviews and media tours with the press.

In an interview on July 27, Nhi was asked: "What changes does your boyfriend need to make, now that you’re Miss World Vietnam?"

She said that her boyfriend needed to make "quick and significant changes so he can catch up to me."

In another interview, she said that she was more mature than people her age who just wanted to "sleep, have fun and drink milk tea."

"I participated in a beauty contest. I’m more mature than them. While they are still in school and working part-time, I’m already a beauty queen," she said.

Nhi quickly came under heavy criticism for the comments and was soon filming a tearful apology saying that she was inexperienced and not thinking right, which made people misunderstand her.

"I’m sorry for letting people down. I hope that in the future, I will be more careful with my words so people can have a better perspective of me, " she said.

Nhi added that because she had to do so many interviews, sometimes she did not fully understand the questions, and gave poor answers.

"I also have fatigue and that makes my mind not very clear," she said.

Nhi, 21, a student at HCMC International University, was crowned Miss World Vietnam on July 22, in the southern beach city of Quy Nhon.

Her boyfriend is a student at HCMC University of Architecture. Nhi said the two have a long-term relationship and their love is genuine.

She will have one year to train and improve before representing Vietnam at the 2024 Miss World.
