Phuc Nguyen, representative of Miss Supranational Vietnam contest organizer, rejects accusations that Dang Thanh Ngan, Vietnam’s contestant at the 2023 Miss Supranational, bribed her way into the contest.

Before this year’s Miss Supranational final round on July 14, many people left negative comments on Ngan’s social media profiles, accusing her of bribing her way into the event, often pointing to her "lack of skills."

In response Phuc said his management company had considered Ngan a potential contestant to represent Vietnam since the "2018 Leading Star" project.

However, she had been busy studying and with acting projects ever since, so she’d been off the beauty contest radar, he said.

"We encouraged Ngan to compete in this year’s Miss Supranational contest to create a breakthrough in her career and her life," Phuc told NgoiSao. "And she accepted."

He said both he and his company are grateful for Ngan's acceptance, as they couldn’t find anyone to compete in this year’s Miss Supranational contest, despite their success last year in supporting Miss Supranational 2022 2nd runner-up Nguyen Huynh Kim Duyen to achieve her title.

"Frankly speaking, Ngan was a substitute," he said. "We are grateful for how Ngan didn't care about that and put all of her effort into the pageant instead."

Phuc said Ngan was totally suited to be Vietnam’s representative at the contest. She improved a lot in her charisma and skills over the period of two months she had to prepare for the pageant.

"Not everyone can improve as much as Ngan," he added. "I think people should support a fellow Vietnamese when she competes in an international contest instead of criticizing and gossiping about ungrounded things that we organizers don't care about."

Ngan has been aware of the comments people left on her profiles.

She said she was sad for not being encouraged and supported like other Vietnamese representatives at international beauty pageants. Despite that, she was determined to put in all of her effort.

"I didn’t compete for myself," she said. "I was proud to be Vietnam’s representative at an international contest, and I competed for my country."

Ngan, 23, is from Mekong Delta Province of Soc Trang. She was announced as the winner of the Miss Influencer's Challenge, part of the Miss Supranational contest, on June 24, and crowned the 4th runner-up during the final on July 14 in Malopolska, Poland.
