As reported by News.com.au, Dawn was making a visit to the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center to shop when the attack occurred on Saturday.
A close friend of hers told the news outlet: "She’d just gone in to buy makeup at Chanel, she was only there for 15 minutes, looking at makeup for her wedding."
Sources say that Dawn had just chosen her wedding dress the previous week and had begun distributing invitations to her forthcoming nuptials.
The Sun reported that Dawn’s fiancé Ashley Wildey, a police officer, hurried to the scene after getting an urgent call for officers, only to discover that his fiancée was among the casualties. He was subsequently escorted from the location to be consoled by relatives.
A report from the Herald Sun, citing Australian radio host Ray Hadley, disclosed that Dawn’s father John contacted Hadley because he believed his daughter was among the victims and inquired whether the radio host could assist in verifying the victims’ identities.
Reuters reports that the assault happened when a single man, later identified as 40-year-old Joel Cauchi, clad in shorts and a jersey of the Australian national rugby league, went on a stabbing spree through the Westfield Bondi Junction mall.
Some mall shoppers and employees in the mall attempted to intercept him, and many sought refuge in stores that had closed their shutters.
He fatally wounded six individuals and injured at least 12 others before being neutralized by Inspector Amy Scott, who confronted him alone during his spree.
John Singleton, 82, has achieved significant success in his career, which spans the fields of publishing, advertising, and racing.
The Australian Financial Review estimates his fortune at A$820 million (US$526.8 million) as of 2023.
Dawn is one of the three daughters of John Singleton and his sixth spouse, attorney Julie Martin.
