Photos of the damaged car after crashing at a traffic light spread on social media platforms Tuesday.
"It was indeed my car but a friend of mine was driving at the time," the footballer told NgoiSao, adding that the car was brought to an auto repair service and the cost of repair would be covered by his insurance company.
Thanh got the car in June with the help of the supercar dealer Phan Cong Khanh. While the exact amount he paid is unknown, the driveaway price of the model is about VND4 billion ($169,000).
There was also news about him purchasing a luxury apartment in HCMC earlier this month.
Thanh, 27, was voted Vietnamese Young Player of the Year in 2016. He started to gain more recognition after being part of the national team that reached the finals at the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship.
He currently plays for Hanoi Police Football Club in the top tier of Vietnamese football.
