The case was closed as the police investigated and found out that the phones were accidentally left by a delivery man, surnamed Liu, the previous day, before being thrown into bins in the siblings’ residential block by a female cleaner who attempted to unseal the box but failed, according to the South China Morning Post.

Liu reported that he put a total of 50 iPhones, contained in five boxes, on top of the bins while arranging his packages, but forgot to pick them up after. It was not until the following day that he realized he had lost the phones.

According to Liu, he was paralyzed by the thought that he would never be able to earn enough money to compensate for the phones, which cumulatively were worth 350,000 yuan (around $49,000).

The pair have been praised for their honesty since their story was posted on online communities and went viral. "They have literally saved the delivery man’s life," a netizen commented.
