The man said he heard a bubbling sound in his left ear while kissing his girlfriend and experienced subsequent feeling of pain which led to him unable to hear properly, reported the South China Morning Post earlier this week.

As the couple rushed to a hospital to perform a check-up, the man was diagnosed with a perforated eardrum, which might have been the result of a rapid change in air pressure inside his left ear which, in turn, happened following the couple’s passionate snogging session.

It is estimated that he would regain his normal hearing ability within two months.

This is not the first recorded case of such an incident in China. Another couple in the country’s southern province of Guangdong had a similar encounter last month after kissing each other while watching television at home.

According to health experts, alongside kissing, fighting, road accidents, diving and flying can also cause a perforated eardrum. Less serious situations can be treated with antibiotics and ear-drying practices, while more severe cases may require surgery.

"This is why I don’t want to find a partner. It’s too dangerous," joked one netizen, among more than 400,000 comments on a video about the incident, uploaded on social media platform Douyin.
