Hong Kong-Taipei continued to be the world's busiest international route in July with 581,965 seats, equivalent to the same period last year, according to data from British aviation firm OAG.

In 2024, it was the world's busiest international route with a total of 6.8 million seats, up 48% from 2023, when it came in third place.

Airlines operating this route are facing fierce competition, OAG said.

There are currently a total of seven airlines operating direct flights between the two cities, including China Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Greater Bay Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, Hong Kong Express, STARLUX Airlines and EVA Air.

The flight time between the two cities is about two hours.

Cairo - Jeddah was the second busiest international air route in July, followed by Kuala Lumpur - Singapore Changi, Seoul Incheon - Tokyo Narita and Seoul Incheon - Osaka Kansai.

The rest of the top 10 were Jakarta - Singapore Changi, Osaka Kansai - Shanghai Pudong, Dubai - Riyadh, New York JFK - London Heathrow and Bangkok - Hong Kong.
