Countries that require Singaporean passport holders to apply for entry permits

Despite holding the world's most powerful passport, Singaporeans have to apply for visas or other travel permits before visiting certain countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Bhutan, according to data compiled by Changi Airport.

Australia

To enter Australia, they have to apply for an electronic travel authority that is valid for one year and allows multiple visits of up to 90 days each.

To apply, they can simply download the Australian ETA mobile app from the App Store or Google Play. The application fee is AU$20 (US$13.24).

Applicants typically receive the processing results within 24 hours.

Canada

Singaporean citizens must apply for a similar eTA to visit Canada. It is valid for five years and allows stays of up to 180 days per visit.

Applicants will need a valid credit or debit card to make the CA$7 (US$5) payment for the eTA.

New Zealand

To enter New Zealand too, Singaporean citizens an eTA, which costs NZ$17 (US$10.17) on the mobile app and NZ$23 on the website.

Additionally, a visitor conservation and tourism levy of NZ$35 must be paid.

The approval may take up to 72 hours and Singaporeans can stay in New Zealand for three months.

India

For travel to India, Singaporeans must apply for a tourist visa online -- on the government website -- at least four days before the arrival date.

The visa is valid for 60 days from the date of entry and permits entry through 24 designated airports and three seaports. The fee is US$25 and processing takes three working days.

United States

Since 1999 Singapore has been part of the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, allowing its citizens to travel without a traditional visa. But they must obtain authorization through the electronic system for travel authorization.

It is valid for two years and permits stays of up to 90 days. Processing takes 72 hours and costs US$21.

Bhutan

Singapore passport holders must obtain a valid visa before traveling to Bhutan and are required to book their trip through a Bhutanese tour operator or one of their international partners, who will handle the visa arrangements.

Passports should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in Bhutan and the maximum stay allowed is 90 days.

Additionally, travelers have to pay a sustainable development fee of US$100 per night.

Nepal

Singapore passport holders require a valid visa to enter Nepal.

Visas can be obtained upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at border entry points.

Alternatively, they can be acquired at the Nepalese consulate in Singapore or online via the country's immigration portal.

The processing takes about one day, and the fees start at US$30 depending on the validity period. The maximum stay allowed is 90 days.

Egypt

Singaporeans are required to apply for an e-visa when visiting Egypt. It takes three days for approval.

The visa can be obtained from the immigration website, costs US$25, is valid for three months from the date of issue, and allows a stay of 30 days per visit.

A Singapore passport enables visa-free or visa-on-arrival travel to 195 out of 227 countries and territories, giving it top spot in the Henley Passport Index.
