China will raise visa fees for Japanese nationals to about seven times their current levels from Sept.14, the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo said.

The fees will increase from 2,250 yen to 16,750 yen (US$109) for a single-entry visa and from 3,750 yen to 25,100 yen ($163) for a double-entry visa for applications submitted on or after Monday, Japan Times reported.

A six-month multiple-entry visa will cost 33,500 yen, while a one-year multiple-entry visa will cost 50,250 yen, according to China's Global Times.

The embassy said applications submitted before Sept. 14 will continue to be charged at the previous rates, while visa fees for nationals of third countries will remain unchanged.

The move follows Japan’s decision to raise visa fees for foreign nationals in July.

The Japanese government raised the single-entry visa fee for foreign nationals fivefold, from 3,000 to 15,000 yen, marking the first increase since 1978 amid inflation and a weaker yen, Kyodo News reported.
