Japan Airlines claimed the top position with an on-time performance rate of 88.17%, followed by Japan's All Nippon Airways (87.21%), Malaysia's AirAsia (85.48%) and Japan-based Peach Aviation (84.19%), according to travel data analytics firm Cirium.
An airline’s on-time performance is calculated by whether the plane arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time and if it departs within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time, Cirium said.
Globally, the most punctual airline was Mexico’s AeroMexico which achieved an 88.83% on-time performance rate, followed by Japan Airlines with 88.17%, and Japan’s All Nippon Airways with 87.21%.
Cirium compiled the list by analyzing 600 sources of real-time flight information, ensuring accuracy from airports, air navigation service providers, global distribution systems, airlines, positional data, civil aviation authorities, the internet, and proprietary data partnerships.
A representative of Vietnam Airlines said this was a striking result as April coincided with Vietnam's five-day holiday (April 27-May 1) to celebrate Reunification Day and Labor Day, with anincreasing number of passengers and pressure on airport infrastructure.
