Budget airline Vietjet Air has announced plans to resume flights to India's New Delhi soon and launch new services from Hanoi, HCMC and Phu Quoc this year.

The new HCMC-Mumbai service will be launched on June 2 with four flights a week either way while Hanoi-Mumbai flights will start a day later with three weekly services.

Flights from Phu Quoc Island will start operating to Mumbai on September 8 and New Delhi a day later.

Vietjet is the only Vietnamese carrier to fly to India.

Before the pandemic, it operated flights from Hanoi, HCMC to New Delhi. The carrier plans to resume these routes during the Reunification Day (April 30) holiday after over two years of suspension due to the pandemic.

The number of Indian visitors to Vietnam has grown steadily over the past years from 19.9 percent in 2015 to 28 percent in 2019, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

Vietnam reopened inbound tourism from March 15 after a two-year hiatus.
