A male tourist from Hong Kong and another from Kazakhstan have been confirmed dead after drowning on separate beaches in Phuket, Thailand.

Last week, the 52-year-old from Hong Kong arrived on the island with his 15-year-old son and went swimming at Patong Beach, Thaiger reported.

The son then saw his father drowning in a restricted zone marked with red no-swimming flags and called for help from lifesavers.

The father was already unconscious after being pulled ashore, and later pronounced dead in hospital, the South China Morning Post reported.

Thai authorities are working with relevant agencies to support his family.

In a separate incident, a 57-year-old Kazakh man who arrived in Phuket to enjoy a holiday with his family of five was also witnessed drowning on Karon beach last week, Phuket News reported.

After being taken to shore, he became unconscious and received CPR support. He was taken to a nearby hospital but died en route.

Thailand has received over 20 million foreign tourists so far this year.
