Hanoi authorities have launched an investigation after a video showed a train passing by cafes on Hanoi Train Street, crashing into tables and chairs and causing panic among customers.

The nearly one-minute video, shared by Seniworld Travel on Oct. 7, quickly went viral on social media, showing cafes placing tables and chairs too close to the tracks, leading to the collision that knocked over a row of tables.

Tourists sitting and filming the scene were seen panicking and screaming.

"This is why we need to be more mindful of the distance between tables and the tracks on Hanoi Train Street," the video's poster wrote.

A representative from the Department of Economic Infrastructure and Urban Areas of Hoan Kiem Ward confirmed they were aware of the incident and had reported it to Hoan Kiem Police for further investigation.

Train Street, famous for a railroad track being in close proximity to cafes and residences, was made off-limits in September 2022 due to safety concerns.

But barricades and security checkpoints along Tran Phu and Phung Hung streets have not stopped large crowds, particularly on weekends, visiting the cafes along the tracks that remain open.

In June, a viral video showed a foreign tourist narrowly escaping serious injury while filming a train on the popular rail track.
