Taiwanese authorities announced Vietnamese travelers could apply for social visit or tourist entry visas starting next week.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi earlier this week announced nationals of countries that are not eligible for visa exemption can apply for visas to enter Taiwan for tourism purposes from Oct. 13.

Taiwan will also reinstate its visa simplification policy. Visitors are allowed to enter with a visa on arrival, an electronic visa (e-visa) or a Travel Authorization Certificate reserved for nationals from Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam.

Taiwan is set to end its mandatory Covid quarantine for foreign arrivals on Oct. 13 while Vietnam did so in March.

In recent years, Vietnam has been among the biggest feeder markets for Taiwan’s tourism boom. In 2019, the year before the onset of Covid, Taiwan welcomed over 777,000 Vietnamese tourists, a year-on-year increase of 26.5%.
