A Spanish tourist thanked Thai police for helping him to retrieve his lost camera and a hard drive that stored photos from his travel, praising them as the "the best cops in the world."

The tourist, identified as Denison Mendes, went to the Don Mueang Police Station to pick up his lost bag with a camera, two lenses and a hard drive on September 29, Pol Lieutenant PhattharasayaRirkrat, deputy inspector of the station, said on her TikTok page on Tuesday.

"Spanish people must know that not only Don Mueang police, but all Thai police, are the best cops in the world. Tourists who come to Thailand must know that they will be safe. You are the best cops in the world," Phattharasaya's post quoted Mendes as saying.

The tourist and his girlfriend arrived at the police station in Bangkok's Don Mueang to file a complaint earlier that he had forgotten his camera bag in a taxi that they took to go to Don Mueang International Airport, the National Thailand reported.

He did not know the license plate number of the taxi.

His bag contained a Nikon camera, two lenses and a hard drive in the boot of the car.

Based on CCTV footage, police identified the taxi driver who said he had been trying to locate the foreign tourists to give the bag to them.

Thailand has received 19.5 million foreign tourists so far this year.
