The inspections targeted high-traffic public areas and crowded areas, including the Jakarta Cathedral, the Gambir central railway station, and the iconic National Monument (Monas), and the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout - a major city landmark and traditional gathering spot.
They are part of a nationwide security campaign known as "Operasi Lilin 2025" (Operation Candle), a standard annual mobilization of police and military personnel to secure the country’s year-end festivities.
Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, the operation's public relations head, stated that the operations aimed to assess the readiness of personnel and equipment, as well as the coordination capabilities among relevant units.
He stressed that the Indonesian police are committed to providing safety and security for residents to celebrate Christmas and enjoy their year-end holidays.
Following the field visits, police confirmed that all monitored locations are currently secure and that personnel are fully deployed.
They also reaffirmed their broader commitment to preventive measures, ensuring that both the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year celebrations remain peaceful for both locals and international visitors.
Indonesia’s Christmas bombings in 2000 and 2003 have led authorities to enforce strict year-end security measures.
Police and military forces are mobilized to reduce the risk of attacks and safeguard both citizens and tourists.
Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia, welcomed 8.53 million foreign arrivals in the first seven months of this year, up 10% compared with the same period last year and nearly half of this year's target.
