The body of a 24-year-old South Korean tourist was found on Monday after he went missing while swimming at An Bang beach near Hoi An in central Vietnam.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Park Hyun Jin arrived in the historic town of Hoi An as a tourist.

He and a friend went to An Bang beach in Cam An Ward, around three kilometers from downtown Hoi An, to swim.

More than 45 minutes later, his friend went ashore and discovered that Park was missing.

At this time, the waves were rough and dangerous, making it difficult for rescue efforts.

The Cua Dai Border Guard Station sent more than 12 officers to coordinate with local forces to organize search efforts along the coast.

At 2:30 p.m. on Monday, rescue forces discovered the victim's body near An Bang beach.

An Bang was put in the international limelight when CNN listed it as one of the 100 best beaches on earth in 2011.

The best time to visit this beach is between May and September.

Since Vietnam reopened its borders to foreign tourists in March last year, South Korea has become the Southeast Asian nation’s largest source of tourist arrivals.

In the first nine months of this year, Vietnam welcomed over 2.5 million South Koreans.
