South Korea slipped to second place with 1.32 million visitors, a 5% year-on-year increase, according to data from the General Statistics Office.
During the first two months of the year, South Korea had been Vietnam’s top source market, but China, Asia's largest economy, ultimately reclaimed the lead in the whole quarter.
In March alone, China recorded 482,000 arrivals, securing its return to the top position.
The number of Chinese tourists visiting Vietnam in 2025 rose 41% year-on-year to 5.2 million, making them the largest group of foreign arrivals.
Tourism experts say a combination of strong safety conditions, geographic proximity, and relatively low travel costs is fueling a surge in Chinese visitors to Vietnam, particularly as tensions in the Middle East push up oil prices and disrupt some international flight routes.

Vietnam welcomed 6.76 million international visitors in the first three months of the year, up 12% year-on-year and the highest quarterly figure ever recorded.
With nearly 2.1 million international visitors in March, Vietnam has for the first time achieved a new record of receiving over 2 million visitors for three consecutive months in a year, according to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
