Singapore jails British tourist for assaulting Marina Bay Sands staff member

Jonathan David Lowe, 43, was also fined S$1,000 (US$763) on Thursday after pleading guilty to charges of public nuisance and voluntarily causing hurt, according to The Straits Times.

The incident occurred on Sept. 21 when Lowe, after consuming alcohol at a rooftop bar, caused a commotion at Marina Bay Sands, a complex that includes a resort, casino, and entertainment facilities, Asia One reported.

Surveillance footage showed Lowe entering a hotel elevator at around 10:40 p.m. with five other men. The video captured him initially folding his arms and then raising them before unexpectedly slapping and punching four of the men in the elevator.

Although some attempted to restrain him, the assault continued until the elevator stopped, and the men managed to escape.

At 11:12 p.m., an assistant manager of the complex approached the fourth-floor elevator lobby, where Lowe accidentally punched him in the head, causing him to fall and hit the wall. The victim sustained a head injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

In addition, the court revealed that Lowe also threw a flowerpot on the floor during the disturbance.

Lowe, who was visiting Singapore for the Formula One race, expressed remorse for his actions and offered compensation to the victim.
