Paris scored 68.81 out of 100 points, with 6.81 theft or scam mentions per 1,000 reviews, standing right after Bangkok that scored 83.45.
"Visitors most often reported thefts at Montmartre and the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur, where large crowds and distracted sightseers create easy opportunities for quick hands," the report said.
Criminal activity in Paris appears to lean more toward pickpocketing than scams, with reviews reporting an average of 4.54 pickpocketing incidents compared to just 2.27 mentions of scams.
Compare the Market's study assessed over 75 cities worldwide based on perceived risks of these activities, using the number of scams and pickpocketing mentions per 1,000 visitor reviews.
It also evaluated how often visitors expressed concerns about being robbed or mugged at specific locations.
To reduce the risk of pickpocketing and scams, travelers should take basic precautions, such as keeping valuables secure, avoiding unlicensed taxis, and staying cautious when approached by strangers.
Visitors should also familiarize themselves with common scams at each destination to recognize suspicious behavior and protect themselves from becoming victims.
