Bibury in the U.K. was named the world's most beautiful village this year by U.S. luxury tour operator Unforgettable Travel Company.

"Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, Bibury unfurls like a watercolor dream—where honey-slicked cottages line Arlington Row; their mossy roofs whispering tales of 14th-century weavers," the company wrote.

The village is located on the River Coln, a Thames tributary that rises in the Cotswolds.

The village's center is 10 kilometers northeast of Cirencester and a major destination for tourists visiting the traditional rural villages, tea houses and many historic buildings of the Cotswold District.

Hallstatt in Austria came in second, followed by Reine in Norway and Giethoorn in the Netherlands.

Every spot has been carefully chosen for its "old-world whimsy and lived-in charm," the travel company wrote.

"These are places you can lose yourself among brambles and bracken, stay in a tiny stone cottage, and fall asleep listening to a babbling stream."
