A 59-year-old man reported to authorities that the incident occurred early Saturday morning, when he and his two friends from Hanoi asked a restaurant's owner to call them a taxi after dining there.
The taxi, which carried a license plate of Binh Duong Province in southern Vietnam, picked them up to transport them to their hotel on Ngo Thi Sy Street. Upon reaching their destination, an argument broke out between the passengers and the driver. The driver then allegedly used pepper spray on the man and his friends, causing them distress.
The Department of Transportation of Lam Dong Province, home to Da Lat, has confirmed that the taxi was not officially registered to operate in the region and was therefore running illegally.
Da Lat City Police and other relevant authorities are investigating the incident.
