$26 mln to transform Dong Thap flower village into culture hub

Sa Dec, a famed flower village in the Mekong Delta’s Dong Thap Province, will receive VND600 billion ($26 million) in funding to become a culture village.

Approved by the People's Committee of Dong Thap, the project will commence in two phases (2020-2025 and 2026-2030), with investment coming from public and private funds.

The culture village will have functional subdivisions focused on product display, flower shops, traditional cuisine, traditional festivals, resorts, flower oil extraction etc.

A central canal system will be upgraded for goods transportation and tourism development while the project itself focuses on guiding locals to produce ornamental flowers. A separate code of conduct will manage visitors, owners of tourist attractions, residents, and travel businesses.

Sa Dec flower village was established over 100 years ago. Each year, it welcomes millions of domestic and foreign tourists. This is one of the largest ornamental flower areas in the Mekong Delta, supplying 7- 8 million flower products to the national market each year and for export to Cambodia, earning more than VND1.4 trillion ($61 million), and accounting for over 70 percent of the local agricultural production value.
