Korean media report that outbound travel preferences among South Korean travelers are gradually shifting from long-haul urban destinations toward locations that offer moderate seasonal change and convenient travel conditions, and Phu Quoc has been cited as an increasingly popular choice for early-year travel.

Coverage published in early 2026 by Korean outlets such as Hankyung suggests that while avoiding winter weather remains an important factor, it is no longer the sole consideration. For the Lunar Year of the Horse 2026, travelers are described as seeking destinations associated with movement, departure, and renewal. With a warm and relatively stable climate, along with an expanding number of direct flights from South Korea, Phu Quoc is viewed as meeting practical requirements for travel during the Lunar New Year period.

According to Phu Quoc International Airport, in early 2026 the island is served by an average of around 13 daily flights connecting it with major South Korean cities, including Seoul, Busan, and Cheongju. Korean media note that the availability of frequent direct services allows travelers to plan shorter Lunar New Year trips with greater flexibility.

A flight time of approximately five hours is described as suitable for early-year travel, particularly for families and middle-aged travelers, who represent a significant share of Lunar New Year holidaymakers. During this period, South Korea typically experiences its coldest winter conditions, while Phu Quoc maintains average temperatures of 26-28 degrees Celsius, with relatively calm seas and consistent sunshine.

Rather than emphasizing fast-paced itineraries, Korean reports describe Phu Quoc as offering a balanced travel environment focused on rest and leisure. Beaches such as Kem Beach and Sao Beach, known for white sand and clear water, along with a wide range of resort accommodations, are cited as providing privacy and a calm setting. These characteristics are noted as aligning with the growing "healing travel" trend among Korean tourists.

In addition to leisure travel, Korean media reference the symbolic associations of the Lunar Year of the Horse in East Asian culture, which is traditionally linked to movement, momentum, and new beginnings. As a result, the first trip of the year is often viewed as setting the tone for the months ahead.

Within this context, Phu Quoc is presented as reflecting these themes through its transportation links and tourism infrastructure. Media reports highlight features such as direct flight connectivity, coordinated resort services, and attractions designed for immediate access upon arrival. Sites including the three-cable-car route to Hon Thom, coastal entertainment areas, and Sunset Town are described as contributing to an active yet measured visitor experience.

Among the attractions frequently mentioned are the Kiss Bridge and large-scale multimedia shows such as "Kiss of the Sea" and "Symphony of the Sea". Nightly fireworks displays are also referenced by Korean media as memorable elements of evening activities on the island.

Korean outlets have additionally noted plans for the launch, in the second quarter of 2026, of direct routes between South Korea and Phu Quoc by Sun Phu Quoc Airways. Observers describe the development as part of broader efforts to strengthen connectivity between air travel and tourism services on the island.

Korean media assessments suggest that Phu Quoc is undergoing a gradual repositioning among early-year travel destinations for Korean visitors. Rather than being viewed solely as a winter escape, the island is increasingly described as offering a combination of accessibility, ease of travel, diverse activities, and cultural symbolism.
