Photographers spice up, steal UK Food Photo Awards

For capturing the essence of culinary cultures across the globe in dynamic and evocative images, Vietnamese photographers won multiple categories at the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards.

A series of Vietnamese photographers were honored in different categories at the prestigious U.K. event for what organizers said were "shots capturing the rhythm of culinary culture."

Cao Ky Nhan won the second prize in the ‘Food in the Field’ category for his shot depicting a Cham community of shepherds in the south central province of Ninh Thuan, the organizing board announced at a ceremony last week.

Another of Nhan’s shots capturing the beauty of the ripe rice season in Mu Cang Chai, a remote district in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai, also won the ‘Highly Commended’ prize at the same category.

Chim Oanh claimed the ‘Commended’ award in the same category for her shot of fishermen pulling in nets to catch fish on Nhu Y River in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Held since 2011, the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year awards recognize the art and diversity of global food photography to several honorees, with a top prize of £5000 ($6,169).

This year, the contest received thousands of entries submitted from over 65 countries across the world competing in dozens of categories.

Chinese photographer Zhonghua Yang won the grand prize of this year’s contest for a shot of a woman holding a tray of steaming red bean paste balls for a feast to celebrate the Spring Festival, also known as the Lunar New Year, historically East Asia’s largest and most important holiday by far.
