Immigration officials at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Philippines have detained a Japanese citizen who tried to leave the country with a fake Special Resident Retiree’s Visa.

On Sunday, Yoshiaki Nakamura, 64, was about to board a Philippine Airlines flight to Osaka.

However, he was referred for a secondary inspection after immigration officers suspected that he was holding a counterfeit visa, the Philippines News Agency reported.

After undergoing validation, officials found the visa affixed on Nakamura’s passport was fake.

"Such actions violate Philippine immigration laws and warrant serious consequences," the Filipino Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said.

The tourist is awaiting deportation.

The SSRV visa allows foreigners to stay in the Philippines indefinitely with multiple-entry/exit privileges.
