Oktoberfest, love-themed concert to light up Saigon weekend entertainment scene

Saigon offers a diverse weekend lineup of entertainment activities: community market, Oktoberfest, love-themed concert, international metal event, and a thrilling film.

So there is more or less something for everyone.

Community market

MUJI, the Japanese retail brand, is set to host its first community market event in Vietnam, bringing together local businesses and customers in a unique shopping experience.

Part of a global initiative, it aims to support small local businesses and foster stronger connections between communities and their local entrepreneurs.

It will feature five small local businesses, and MUJI will open its doors to them and offer a platform to showcase and sell their products in its stores.

Participating businesses get to keep 100% of the revenues they generate at the event. This concept has been successfully implemented by MUJI in various countries around the world, and is making its debut in Vietnam.

It will be held from September 29 to October 1 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. The venue for it will be the MUJI store at 35-45 Le Thanh Ton Street, District 1.

Oktoberfest celebration

East West Brewery's 6th annual Oktoberfest celebration will be a two-day event on September 29 and 30. It will feature the Beer Stein Holding Championship, providing attendees with the opportunity to test their mettle.

Oktoberfest enthusiasts will have a wide range of offerings like 10 different styles of craft beers, German food, party games, a photobooth, lucky draws, and live entertainment with DJs.

There are two ticket choices. A standard ticket costs VND550,000 (US$26) and comes with a 650 ml Oktoberfest beer, food sampler, Oktoberfest beer stein gift, and a chance to win prizes in a lucky draw. A free-flow ticket costing VND880,000 ($36) offers three hours of unlimited beer, a food sampler, the Oktoberfest beer stein gift, and the lucky draw.

The event at East West Brewing Co, 181-185 Ly Tu Trong Street, District 1, starts at 7 p.m.

Concert: Inspired by Love

A concert titled "Inspired by Love" by Saigon Classical is set to explore the universal theme of love through music. The program features a wide range of compositions, each capturing different aspects of love, from romantic melodies to heartfelt farewells, and even love for one’s homeland.

It will feature pieces like Gabriel Fauré’s "Chanson d'amour," Alexander Borodin's "String Quartet No. 2 in D major" and Giacomo Puccini's "Un bel dì, vedremo."

It will also touch upon themes like separation, longing and devotion in various tasks.

The concert will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on September 30 at the Arts and Literature Center in District 3.

The suggested donation for entry is VND120,000 ($5) and attendees can register online at this link to ensure seating availability.

Metal united worldwide 2023

HEHEMETAL and Kumite are hosting Metal United World Wide at Havana Club in Ho Chi Minh City this weekend.

The concert will feature Vietnamese metal bands along with international acts to offer a diverse musical experience.

Metal United World Wide (MUWW) is an annual global event started by Michael Luedders of Black-Roos Entertainment in 2017. It unites metal bands from over 40 countries and 60 cities, all performing on the same day to celebrate the genre's unity and diversity.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. on September 30 at Havana Club, 142 Tran Nao Street, District 2. Tickets are available at the door for VND250,000 ($10).

French movie "Le Salaire de la peur" (The wages of fear)

French cinema rendez-vous is a new weekly event that screens a variety of very different films. The screenings are done by French Cinema Rendez-vous and Institut français de HCMV.

"The wages of fear" takes viewers on a thrilling journey set in Central America in which an oil company offers a big reward to brave individuals willing to drive two trucks filled with explosive nitroglycerin over 500 kilometers of dangerous roads. Their mission is to put out a fire at an oil well. Four adventurers are chosen for this dangerous and challenging mission.

It will be shown at DCiné Cinema, 6 Mac Dinh Chi Street, District 1 at 7 p.m. on September 30. Tickets cost VND60,000 ($2.50) each.
