Travelers in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam are especially price-sensitive, with most looking for stays under $50 per night, according to the survey conducted in October.
Agoda surveyed 3,353 respondents across nine Asian markets — India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
About 40% of respondents plan to spend between 6% and 10% of their income on travel and said they are determined to make every dollar count.
Price is the top factor when choosing where to stay with 39% of travelers ranking accommodation price as their main consideration, ahead of location (30%) and reviews (18%).
According to Agoda, searches for accommodation within lesser-known cities in Asia have grown 15% faster than traditional tourism hubs in the past two years thanks to lower costs, unique cultural experiences, nature and outdoor activities.
