Meliá Vinpearl Phu Quoc has been a key player in reshaping the perception of all-inclusive vacations over the past three years.

The resort achieved full occupancy, reaching 90% during the peak season and maintaining an exceptional rate through the end of the first quarter. In 2023, it coordinated weekly charter flights, hosting over 350 Czech tourists on a fully packaged trip to the island for the first time.

Leading this transformation is Mario Caballero, Cluster General Manager of Meliá Vinpearl Southern Area and Phu Quoc. With over two decades of international hospitality leadership, he is recognized for his strategic vision and high operational standards across four Meliá properties in Vietnam.

Mario shares his insight on how the all-inclusive model can elevate Phu Quoc's position on the global tourism map.

What will it take to bring Phu Quoc's all-inclusive scene to a global level?

All-inclusive systems have long thrived in Mexico and the Mediterranean, and the trend is now rapidly expanding across Asia. From 2019 to April 2024, all-inclusive bookings on major travel platforms increased by 70%, with searches for the term rising by 60% year-over-year.

This segment has immense potential, especially as destinations like Phuket and Bali become too familiar. Phu Quoc offers more authenticity. The profitability of the all-inclusive model depends on longer stays, and the visa exemption allowing up to 30 days on the island creates favorable conditions for high-spending European travelers and long-stay markets.

Phu Quoc also earned a spot on The World's Most Wonderful Islands list. With its mild climate, few storms, and stunning coral reefs, coupled with an expanding infrastructure, the island is poised to offer high-quality tourism experiences.

All-inclusives have been a hot topic lately. How is Meliá Vinpearl Phu Quoc staying competitive?

Our competitive edge lies in both scale and exclusivity. With 522 villas along Bai Dai Beach, one of the world's most beautiful shores, each villa offers a private pool designed for families and friends to relax in spacious comfort while staying connected with nature. Here, the usual issue of overcrowding common with all-inclusive resorts is non-existent.

Meliá Vinpearl Phu Quoc has been recognized as one of Vietnam's leading all-inclusive destinations. Over the past three years, we've steadily built a strong presence in international markets by combining charter flights with an all-inclusive approach. This year, we're extending this concept to domestic travelers with an "all-in-one" stay ranging from three to seven nights.

At Meliá, we offer more than just the basics. No two days are alike. Guests can indulge in round-the-clock culinary offerings at our eight restaurants, enjoy unlimited drinks at sunset bars, or unwind at our Mediterranean beach club. With nearly 30 entertainment options, we keep the experience fresh and exciting.

As demand grows, we continue to expand, ensuring our team is well-trained to deliver consistent, high-quality service, even at full capacity.

What challenges have you faced in meeting guests' preferences?

To meet diverse market needs, we implement tailored strategies, and our cross-cultural staff training ensures seamless operations.

For European guests, we highlight our resort as a hub for curated experiences, featuring specialty dining, premium beverages, and activities like jet skiing, parasailing, and kayaking. This allows them to balance flexibility, adventure, and leisure in the ultimate resort setting.

For Asian guests, we offer family-friendly, structured itineraries that include integrated meals and scheduled activities. Services are digitally enhanced, including high-speed connectivity, mobile concierge, priority transfers, and multilingual staff fluent in Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.

What are some favorite things guests do during the day?

Our daily program centers around well-being. In the morning, guests can join yoga or Pilates, then explore cultural activities like coffee workshops or Latin dance classes. Families enjoy the afternoon foam party, while evenings bring everyone together for cocktails and live music.

Dining is an adventure, with international buffets, Italian and Japanese specialties, and Mediterranean dishes served by the beach. For a relaxed finish, Elyxr Bar and 1982 Sports & Fun Bar offer fine drinks and tasty bites in a stylish setting.

How does the philosophy of ‘Soul Matters' drive your approach in Phu Quoc?

The phrase says it all. Meliá's roots in Mallorca influence how we create experiences. It's a blend of Spanish leisure culture and the warm, authentic character of the Vietnamese people.

We aim to balance global standards with the rich, multicultural essence of the region. Here, guests can relax, enjoy the best gastronomy, and sleep in unique rooms designed for their well-being.

Once we understand our guests, we personalize the experience, adjusting the details to exceed their expectations. From turndown touches to small surprises, we prepare for them. This dedication turns satisfaction into brand advocacy, with guests sharing their experiences both online and through word of mouth.
