A man died after falling off a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park in Georgia on Monday.

According to witnesses, the man was thrown from his seat during a ride at around 4 p.m.

One witness said photos were taken of his fall.

"He hit the coaster three times," a witness told CNN affiliate WXIA, adding that the victim struck other passengers before landing on the roof of a haunted house below.

A woman told WXIA that the victim had been visiting the park with his wife and children, who witnessed the entire incident from below.

Staff members checked everyone's seatbelts before the ride began.

A spokesperson for Six Flags Over Georgia confirmed the incident and offered condolences to the victim's family.

Following the accident, other passengers were evacuated from the roller coaster.

The cause of the incident is not yet known.

Georgia police on Tuesday identified the victim as 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem who worked at the Wesley International Academy, an Atlanta public charter school for kindergarten through eighth grade, NBC News reported.

The incident came two weeks after another Six Flags location in California announced the permanent closure of its X2 roller coaster.

A CNN investigation found that several people have suffered severe injuries or died after riding it.

Six Flags operates a chain of theme parks across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, with its roller coasters and interactive animal exhibits considered the main attractions.
