Japanese art, 'The Beatles' grace Hanoi weekend fun

Hanoi's upcoming weekend promises diverse entertainment from Japanese art exhibitions and a Beatles music night to a wine-based tapas soirée and a Sound of Music event for all.

Exhibition "A Tide of Emotions"

The installation "A Tide of Emotions" featuring work by Japanese female artist Chiharu Shiota, will be on display at the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) October 4, 2023, to March 30, 2024.

Chiharu Shiota is recognized as one of Asia's leading female artists on the global contemporary art scene. Her artistic journey encompasses various creative mediums, including performance art, painting, sculpture, and installation.

"A Tide of Emotions" will showcase new creations produced at VCCA. The centerpiece of the exhibition, sharing the same title, envelops VCCA's expansive space with a network of red threads, a signature material for the artist. These threads are interwoven with wooden boats. Symbolizing history, stories, and carrying numerous metaphors, the wok particularly relevant to a coastal nation like Vietnam.

The exhibition will run from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily at Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA), situated at Vincom Mega Mall Royal City, 72A Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District.

Tickets for the exhibition are priced as follows: VND100,000 ($4) for adults, VND80,000 ($3) for students, and VND50,000 ($2) for children whose height ranges from 1 to 1.3 meters. For safety reasons, children under 1 meter in height are not permitted.

Exhibition "Japanese Dolls"

The exhibition "Japanese Dolls" hosted by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam's Japanese Culture Club and The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, is an official program commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam.

Japanese dolls serve as conveyors of customs, culture, hopes, and beliefs passed down through centuries. This exhibition showcases a diverse range of dolls, spanning from traditional to contemporary, all originating from Japan.

The exhibition will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, from October 3 to 8. It will take place in Room D205 at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, at 69 Chua Lang Street, Dong Da District.

The Beatles Night

Polygon Musik announces a Beatles cover music night, dedicated to celebrating the 83rd birthday of the legendary John Lennon. This event on October 8 at 8:45 p.m. pays tribute to one of the most iconic figures in 20th-century music by performing the timeless songs of The Beatles.

Early Bird ticket pricing is set at VND150,000 ($6), including one drink, and is available for purchase from October 3rd until midnight on October 6th. Tickets can be secured via the registration link. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased offline at Polygon Musik from October 6 to 8 at a price of VND200,000 ($8).

The event is scheduled to take place at 8:45 p.m. on October 8 at Polygon Musik - COMPLEX 01, situated at No. 29 Lane 31 Alley 167 Tay Son Street, Dong Da District.

Wine out: Hanoi's autumn rendezvous

The Continental Lounge is set to host "Wine out#7: Hanoi Autumn Rendezvous on Friday. Guests will savor delectable dishes and sweet wine while enjoying live music in the heart of the city.

A selection of 4 curated wines has been chosen to enhance the flavors of 7 tapas varieties served. They include mini pulled pork burgers, lemon cheesecake, bruschetta with yellow peaches, and roasted sweet potato wedges.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at a price of VND950,000 ($39) per person. The event is scheduled to take place on October 6 at 6:30 p.m. The venue for the event is the Continental Lounge, situated on the 3rd floor of Quan Doi Hotel at 1A Nguyen Tri Phuong Street, Ba Dinh District.

Musical program "The sound of music"

The musical event "The Sound of Music," presented in collaboration between the NEU Philharmonic Classical Music Club and the Diversity Choir, aims to convey a meaningful message centered around love and familial affection through the art of music.

Inspired by the iconic Oscar-winning movie of the same name, the event retells the story of Maria Rainer and the von Trapp family. Maria's love and music guide the family through life's challenges, promising cherished moments for all.
