Under the new plan, the airport's annual capacity will be increased to 10 million passengers and 25,000 tons of cargo per year, with the ability to accommodate large aircraft such as the Boeing B747, B787, Airbus A350, and similar models.
By 2050, the airport is expected to handle about 18 million passengers and 50,000 tons of cargo annually.
Phu Quoc Airport will maintain the existing T1 terminal, which has a capacity of around 4 million passengers per year, while a new T2 terminal, located east of T1, will be designed to handle about 6 million passengers.
To meet these capacity requirements, the current runway will be extended in both directions to reach a length of 3,500 meters and a width of 45 meters. A second runway, planned for construction, will be 3,300 meters long and 45 meters wide.
Currently, the airport has a passenger terminal, a runway, along with 14 aircraft parking positions and a cargo terminal with an annual capacity of 14,500 tons.
To serve the APEC summit in 2027, the airport will need to add a VIP guest house and an additional 16 aircraft parking positions to meet the overnight parking requirements for special aircraft.
In 2024, the airport handled over 4.1 million passengers, including 2.3 million domestic passengers and 1.8 million international passengers, surpassing its designed capacity.
