Hanoi ranked second with revenues of VND44 trillion, surging 74% year-on-year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
Both Vietnam’s largest metropolises saw their foreign tourist arrivals increase sharply during the January-June period as tourism rebounded.
HCMC received 1.94 million foreign arrivals, up three times year-on-year while Hanoi welcomed 2.03 million, up sevenfold.
Quang Ninh, home to UNESCO heritage site Ha Long Bay, ranked third in terms of tourism revenues with VND16.6 trillion, followed by Thanh Hoa and Khanh Hoa.
Other localities that posted revenues of over VND10 trillion during January-June were Nghe An, Binh Thuan, Lao Cai and Da Nang City.
In the first half of this year, the tourism industry earned VND343 trillion, more than half of this year’s target of VND650 trillion.
