HCMC and the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, and Dien Bien have said yes to resuming domestic flights.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) had sought the opinions of 20 provinces and cities that have airports on gradually resuming flights from Tuesday, but so far only these five have agreed.

Hanoi and Hai Phong cities and Gia Lai Province in the Central Highlands have called for delaying the resumption.

The CAAV has suggested operating 132 flights daily to HCMC, the country’s major commercial hub, 20 to Khanh Hoa, seven to Phu Yen, 11 to Binh Dinh, and two to Dien Bien.

HCMC also wants flights to Hanoi route resumed.

Amid a raging Covid-19 outbreak, in late August aviation authorities instructed airlines to stop selling tickets until further notice.

In the fourth wave that began in late April the country has recorded over 809,000 Covid cases.

International flights were stopped early last year and are yet to resume.
