Hanoi this weekend will feature cocktail nights, a jazz tribute evening, an art exhibition, and a painting workshop.

Gallery on fourth: series of guest shifts with champions

Gallery, a bespoke cocktail bar nestled in Hanoi, is set to mesmerize cocktail enthusiasts with a series of guest shifts featuring bartenders from around the globe for its fourth birthday.

The series kicks off on July 25 with Shawn Chong, a three-time World Class Malaysia Champion and the founder of Bar Mizukami, a Japanese-inspired speakeasy in Kuala Lumpur.

It will continue on July 28 with a dual guest shift by Tuan Anh, the World Class Vietnam 2023 Champion, and Phuc Le, a Top 8 finalist of World Class Vietnam 2023.

The series concludes on July 30 with Satoshi Suguiru, a bartender from Japan who won the Four Pillars "Asia Gin Open" 2019 China & Asia champion title. He is also the bar manager of El Lequio, a bar in Tokyo on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2023 list.

The event will take place at Gallery Bespoke Cocktail Bar, located at 95 Phung Hung Street, Hoan Kiem District.

Long waits tribute concert 4 - Sonny Rollins

Long Waits, a modest jazz club in Hanoi, has partnered with Tranquil. Books & Coffee, a cultural venue, to present the Long Waits tribute concert number 4 - Sonny Rollins. It is part of their ongoing series of tribute concerts dedicated to honoring influential jazz musicians.

This particular concert will serve as a celebration of the career and legacy of the jazz saxophonist, Sonny Rollins, who is regarded as one of the most significant and influential figures in the history of jazz music. Throughout his career, Rollins recorded over 60 albums as a bandleader, each testament to his musicality and creative prowess.

The Long Waits tribute concert will feature some of the notable tracks from Rollins' iconic album, "A Night at the Village Vanguard."

This album has been hailed as one of the finest live jazz recordings ever made.

The event will be held at 8 p.m. on July 28 and 29, at Tranquil. Books & Coffee, located on the 2nd floor of No. 5 Nguyen Quang Bich Street, Cua Dong Ward, Hoan Kiem District. The admission fee is set at VND250.000 ($11) per person per night, excluding drinks.

Exhibition "Ethereal scapes"

The exhibition "Ethereal Scapes" is a solo exhibition by Ha Manh Thang, a notable figure in Vietnamese abstract painting. The exhibition showcases 37 landscape-inspired pieces that he created over the last five years.

The exhibition is held at the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art, a modern art center in Hanoi that supports and promotes Vietnamese contemporary art.

The exhibition explores illusions in landscapes and the interplay between external reality and internal perception. Thang uses diverse materials like oil paints, acrylics, gold leaf, coal powder, and copper plates to create abstract representations.

The exhibition is open to the public from July 15 to July 31, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, at VCCA Vincom Center for Contemporary Art, at B1–R3, Vincom Mega Mall Royal City, 72A Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District. Admission is free.

Workshop acrylic "Hang Trong paintings"

The workshop "Hang Trong paintings" is a craft event that will teach you how to make your own Hang Trong paintings using acrylic paints. Hang Trong paintings are a type of Vietnamese folk art that originated in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. They are known for their bright colors, geometric shapes, and symbolic themes.

Attendees will be guided through the techniques and materials needed to create their own masterpieces. They will also have the opportunity to learn from other participants and admire their works.

The event will take place at the Grounds of Imperial Academy, Temple of Literature, 58 Quoc Tu Giam Street, Ba Dinh District. Advance registration through the link is required. The fee is VND350,000 ($15) per person, including a tea break and art supplies.

Episode 1: Signature Cocktail Debut

The "Signature Cocktail Debut" event is set to take place at the Melia Hanoi, a five-star hotel and convention venue. Hosted by the Ministry of Men, a themed drinking establishment, this event marks the launch of a Signature Cocktail collection, inspired by influential figures who have left a lasting impact on the world.

Attendees are invited to join on July 27, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., at the Ministry of Men, situated at 44B Ly Thuong Kiet Street, for an evening filled with cocktails, complimentary shots, and electrifying beats from a live DJ. The event also offers a 15% discount on the Signature Cocktail menu throughout the week.
