Vietnam received 1.04 million foreign visitors in July, the highest in a month since it reopened its borders in March last year after Covid.

So far this year there have been 6.6 million foreign arrivals, equivalent to 83% of the full year's eight-million target, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

South Koreans have topped the list with more than 1.9 million arrivals, or 29% of the total. China has been second with 738,000, followed by the U.S. with 445,000.

Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Cambodia, Australia, and India rounded off the top 10 markets.

In July arrivals from Europe grew at the fastest rate - 27%.

The government has extended the validity of visas to 90 days and allowed multiple entry with effect from August 15, and tourism industry insiders hope to see a jump in visitor numbers as a result.

Many long-haul travelers from Europe and America are making plans for holidays in Vietnam following the visa extension, according to a report from leading online travel platform Agoda based on its hotel search data.
