The American fast-food chain Texas Chicken has announced that it will close all its outlets in Thailand by the end of this month, following nine years of operation in the Southeast Asian country.

Texas Chicken Thailand posted the announcement on its official Facebook page on Sept. 16, stating that all its branches would remain open until Sept. 30, 2024. No specific reason was provided for the decision to exit the Thai market.

"It's time to say goodbye to Texas Chicken after nine years of tasty memories," the post read.

Following the announcement, many Texas Chicken fans across Thailand took to social media to express their disappointment and sadness.

"It's my favorite restaurant, even more than KFC. The food is so delicious, always hot, and definitely 5 stars. And those biscuits – they're amazing! Why are you closing down? Such a great restaurant," one netizen commented.

Another fan wrote, "So sad. The French fries are the best, and the wraps are absolutely delicious. My family loves it."

"It's such a pity. Whenever we travel to Pak Chong, we always stop by the branch at the gas station," another user said.

As of June this year, the number of Texas Chicken outlets in Thailand had dropped from 100 to 97, according to a report by Nation Thailand.

The fried chicken market in Thailand is estimated to be worth 27 billion baht (US$756 million), with KFC holding a dominant 90% market share.
