All-you-can-eat Japanese buffet to close in Singapore after 9 years

"We are sorry to inform you that Shaburi & Kintan Buffet at Jem Singapore will be closing permanently, with our last day of operations on Aug. 30," the restaurant wrote in an Instagram post.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our supporters for your loyal patronage over the past nine years. Thank you!"

The restaurant also advised customers to use all vouchers and membership perks by Aug. 30, noting that any unused benefits will be forfeited.

No reason for the closure was provided.

Shaburi & Kintan Buffet specializes in Japanese barbecue and hotpot and continues to operate outlets overseas in Cambodia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

Singapore's renowned food scene has faced a wave of closures over the past year, affecting everything from budget-friendly hawker stalls to Michelin-starred establishments.

Rising operational costs and reduced consumer spending have contributed to the trend, Reuters reported.

Government data shows that food and beverage business closures averaged 307 per month in 2025, up from 254 in 2024 and approximately 230 in both 2023 and 2022.
