Police in Thailand confirmed they had discovered the remains of a Chinese woman reported missing more than 10 days ago on Saturday.

Officers were inspecting a deserted site near a housing estate in Chachoengsao Province, some 50 km east of Bangkok around noon on Saturday when they found a dismembered body including human legs that were believed to belong to the 38-year-old Yan Ruimin, Bangkok Post reported.

Police are awaiting final DNA test results to officially confirm the identity.

The search came after a friend of Yan’s had filed a complaint to local police on Friday, saying he had lost contact with Yan on June 30.

The friend said Yan planned to travel to Phuket on July 2.

Initial investigations showed Yan traveled alone from Malaysia to Thailand on June 26, The Nation reported.

On June 28-29, Yan visited Pattaya. She arrived in Bangkok on June 30 and stayed at a hotel before moving to a friend's house in the Rama 9 area.

On July 1, she took a Grab taxi to Sukhumvit Soi 12 where a Chinese man identified as Ma Qingyan picked her up by a rented car.

Police also found traces of blood in both the vehicle and Ma's hotel room in Bangkok and initially identified Ma as the main suspect. However, he has since left Thailand.

Yan Ruimin is a popular social media influencer in China. She is active on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu under the name "Ruiming" where she had around 11,000 followers.

Chinese tourists have ben Thailand’s biggest sources of visitors so far this year.
