Authorities in Da Lat resort town in the Central Highlands are trialing paragliding over Xuan Huong Lake before giving it formal approval.

Hanoi company Fly High Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City Paragliding Federation, which offer paragliding tours, are involved in the trials until early November, according to the provincial portal.

Nguyen Tien Hai, deputy director of the Department of Sports, Culture and Tourism of Lam Dong Province, home to Da Lat, said it would be a new tourism product in the town.

Northern localities such as Hanoi and Ha Giang, Yen Bai and Quang Ninh provinces and the central beach city of Da Nang license paragliding tours as part of efforts to boost tourism.

Situated on a plateau around 1,500 meters above sea level, Da Lat enjoys year-round cool weather and is famous for its French colonial heritage.

In the first nine months of this year it received 5.4 million visitors or nearly this year’s targeted figure.
