Cuba announced on Saturday the waiver of visa requirements for Chinese nationals starting this month.

A day after the announcement searches for Cuban hotels and flights on Chinese travel platform Ctrip increased by over 40%, Global Times reported.

Xinhua news agency reported that direct flights between the two countries are set to resume on May 17 after being suspended over three years ago due to Covid.

Before the pandemic the only direct service was offered by Air China between Beijing and Havana.

As of April 26 Cuba had received more than one million foreign tourists for the year, according to its Cuban Ministry of Tourism.

The country hopes to get 3.5 million visitors this year.
