A woman passenger on a high-speed train going from Beijing to Shanghai sparked outrage for talking on her phone with the speaker on for more than an hour.

According to Sanli iNEWS, the incident occurred on the afternoon of Oct. 12 on bullet train G735, when the woman reportedly chatted with her boyfriend for over an hour.

When another passenger told her off for being noisy and inconsiderate and to lower her voice, a heated argument broke out.

The woman told them her phone call was "none of anyone else's business."

Train staff intervened, reminding the woman to end her call and arranged a seat change for the other passenger.

The Nanjing Passenger Transport Division confirmed the incident while calling on passengers to maintain order and practice proper etiquette while traveling.

By Oct. 14, the incident has become one of the trending topics on Weibo and Sina, two of China's leading social media platforms.

Many users criticized the woman's poor behavior on public transportation.

Some pointed out that being forced to listen to unwanted noise over an extended period is infuriating, especially on crowded trains.

"Using speakerphones, playing videos at high volume, or talking loudly is disrespectful to those around you," one wrote.

According to China Railway's 12306 customer service hotline, there are currently no specific regulations prohibiting passengers from making phone calls on trains.

While staff members can request noisy individuals to lower their volume, they are not authorized to make them to end a call.

Passengers also have the option to book tickets in designated quiet carriages.

In standard carriages, handling noise-related disputes relies primarily on staff guidance.
